Residential vs Commercial Solar: What’s Actually Different
By Navya Editorial Team · · 1 min read
A home’s load is fairly flat and predictable; a shop, office or small factory’s load can swing hugely by hour and by season. Commercial sizing starts from your actual load curve, not just your average bill, because a system that’s perfect for your slow season can be badly undersized in your peak one.
Approvals differ too — commercial connections often sit in a different discom tariff category with its own net-metering process and capacity limits, and financing options like accelerated depreciation can meaningfully change the payback math for a registered business in ways that don’t apply to a home.
The upside is that commercial payback periods are frequently shorter than residential ones, simply because commercial tariffs are usually higher per unit.
