How the 2026 Rooftop Solar Subsidy Actually Works

By Navya Editorial Team · · 1 min read

Every year the same question comes up: is the subsidy still available, and has anything changed? For 2026, the core structure is unchanged — residential rooftop systems generally between 1kW and 10kW remain eligible under the central scheme, with the subsidy disbursed directly to your bank account after your system is commissioned and net-metered.

What trips people up isn’t the eligibility, it’s the sequencing. You register on the national solar portal using your electricity consumer number before installation begins. After commissioning, your installer files a technical report confirming the system matches what was registered. Only after your discom completes net-metering and sign-off does the subsidy actually get disbursed — typically 30 to 60 days after that final step, not from the date of installation.

Where most delays happen is a mismatch between the name on the electricity bill and the applicant, or an outdated consumer number on record. We check both before we ever start work, specifically to avoid a finished installation sitting in subsidy limbo over paperwork that was fixable on day one.

Our team handles all three stages of this process on your behalf — portal registration, the post-installation technical report, and coordinating the discom’s net-metering sign-off — so the subsidy timeline is something we track, not something you have to.

Scheme rules, eligibility and subsidy amounts are set by the Government of India and your discom, and can change. Always confirm the current position on the official PM Surya Ghar portal (pmsuryaghar.gov.in) or with your discom before deciding.
