How Net Metering Works — Explained Simply

By Engineering Desk · · 1 min read

Your rooftop system and the grid share a single bidirectional meter. When your panels generate more than your home is using — typically midday — the surplus flows out to the grid and the meter records it in your favour. In the evening, when generation stops but your home still needs power, you draw back from the grid as usual.

At billing time, the discom nets the two directions against each other. You’re billed only for the difference, and in many cases a credit carries forward if you generated more than you consumed over the cycle.

The net-metering agreement itself is a formal step with your discom, completed after commissioning — it’s one of the three checkpoints our team handles as part of your installation, not an extra errand for you to run.
